Vijaya means Victory

Our mother Dr. Vijaya Krishna, MD, was born on 17 October 1951 in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, daughter to Mrs. Rukmini Ammal and Judge T. Viswanathan Subramanian.

While attending medical school at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Pondicherry, India she met her husband, Dr. Pad S. Krishna, MD. They were married on 13 June 1976 and together moved to the United States to begin their professions as a paediatrician and orthopaedic surgeon respectively.

A charismatic and inspiring woman, she served Los Angeles-area patients for over 40 years and instructed students as faculty at the UCLA School of Medicine. In both the US and India she volunteered her skills for medical fairs and support of women's health and welfare. Meanwhile she maintained a strong presence as a member of the southern California Hindu community, leading and promoting religious events and spiritual and Tamil language studies. She also pursued a lifelong love of travel, journeying with her husband across every continent.

Our effort is inspired by her enduring dedication to medicine and serving the vulnerable.
